Gifts and Donations
Cerritos Library is pleased to receive your donations of gently used
books and other materials. Donated items may be added to our collection
or may be directed to the Friends of the Library to sell in the Friends
Store or at their Book Sales.
Small donations of materials can be dropped off at the Circulation Desk.
Larger volumes of materials can be taken to the Library’s loading
dock. For tax purposes, the donor may complete a form titled “Donation
of Library Materials Received.” A staff member will fill out a
receipt, giving a rough estimate of the number of books donated. For

When thinking about donating items, please consider whether they meet
the following criteria:
We can use
gently used, recently published books including textbooks
adult, young adult, and children’s books
paperbacks and hard covers
regular print and large print
bestsellers and recently published fiction & nonfiction
classics (in excellent condition, please)
non-English language materials
newer popular magazines about hobbies, cooking etc.
recent National Geographic magazines
CDs, (please, no scratches)
DVDs videos & cassettes (no home recorded videos)

We are unable to use
books with broken bindings or pages, or sections missing
moldy, mildewed or damp books
books marked with highlighter or pen
paperbacks with yellowed or brittle pages
books with outdated information more than 5 years old
(health, law, computer or business books)
encyclopedia sets more than 10 years old
textbooks more than 5 years old
vinyl records
Reader’s Digest condensed books
weekly news magazines (Time, Newsweek etc.)
any material copied from originals
computer software |
